Abstract

Violence between intimate partners is a global-health problem, which has many directly and indirectly harmful effects on women's health. Much research has been done into the associations between women's experiences of their partner's violence and health outcomes. Studies are now beginning to examine how the health of women is compromised when they are in relationships with men who control or dominate them—eg, through constant surveillance of their whereabouts or through restriction of their financial resources.
