Abstract

Anorexia nervosa is a debilitating psychiatric disorder with profound biological, psychological, and social consequences. After an initial evaluation of the most widely used diagnostic criteria for anorexia nervosa, this paper reviews genetic and environmental risk factors for the development of anorexia with special emphasis on gene environment interplay and the impact of adverse perinatal events. 2005 by Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
