We thank Drs Sharma and Aggarwal for their positive comments about our PURPOSe study. We are pleased to acknowledge their efforts and those of others to determine which stillbirths might be preventable. We had a number of goals for our study. The first was to develop and describe a methodology to evaluate stillbirth preventability in hospital settings in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Our second goal was to use this methodology to determine the proportion of stillbirths that were potentially preventable, and third, to describe the clinical maternal, placental and fetal conditions associated with preventability.
