Abstract

Although a multitude of hormones influence human growth, hormones that regulate the somatotropic axis and metabolism are among the best understood. Along the somatotropic axis, growth hormone and insulinā€like growth factors regulate linear growth, weight, and energy metabolism. Metabolic hormones such as ghrelin, leptin, and adiponectin influence energy intake, expenditure, and storage. These hormones represent important biomarkers for anthropologists who study human growth.
