Globalization is marked by relative increases of transnational flows of onetype or another—capital, products, people, etc.—over a sustained period.
Recent elections in the United States and Europe have demonstrated rather emphatically that during our current phase of globalization the transnational flow of people, particularly in the form of immigration, has become one of the hot-button issues of the day.
