My research broadly focuses on how natural disasters and recurrent flooding impact people's decisions on where to live. Current and past projects include:

  • the impact of disaster mortality on the mobility of the surviving family members
  • the influence of hurricane exposure on neighborhood choice in post-disaster moves
  • the effect of a disaster in a major destination on migration flows
  • the consideration of environmental risk in migration aspirations

These projects draw on data from the American Community Survey, the DEEPP Survey (North Carolina), the Chitwan Valley Family Study (Nepal), and The Study of the Tsunami Aftermath and Recovery (Indonesia).
