The Association of American Geographers Population Geography Specialty Group has chosen Clark Gray to receive the Research Excellence Award. Gray is a Carolina Population Center Faculty Fellow and an Associate Professor of Geography at UNC. The award will be given during the AAG Annual Meeting on Friday, April 7.

David Lopez-Carr was also chosen to receive the Research Excellence Award. Lopez-Carr is a Carolina Population Center training program alum and is Professor of Geography at the University of California at Santa Barbara. On April 21, he will present the final seminar in CPC’s 2016-2017 Interdisciplinary Research Seminars series: Population, Health, and Environment Transitions in the Developing World.

The Research Excellence Award announcement was made by the Population Geography Specialty Group’s Board of Directors:

On behalf of the PSG Board, we are delighted to announce that Clark Gray and David Lopez-Carr are the joint recipients of this year’s Population Specialty Group’s Research Excellence Award. Both David and Clark have made substantial and sustained contributions to our understanding of the interactions between population dynamics and environmental and/or its associated land use change. We have thus organized a special session at our forthcoming meetings in Boston on population geography and the environment, and which will highlight some of Clark’s and David’s work. We hope you can join us for both the PSG business meeting and the session, both of which will take place, back-to-back, in the same place (Room 305, Hynes, Third Level), at 11.50 AM and 1.20 PM respectively.
