CPC Fellow Dr. Amanda Thompson Named Distinguished Chair in Public Policy
Carolina Population Center Fellow Dr. Amanda Thompson was recently named a Thomas Willis Lambeth Distinguished Chair in Public Policy.
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Office of the Provost recently announced the recipients of the chair, which is funded by the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation and aims to recognize and honor outstanding teachers and scholars in public policy.
Dr. Thompson is a human biologist specializing in human growth and nutrition. She focuses on the biological pathways linking early life social, behavioral and physical environments to health outcomes across a range of national and international settings, including North Carolina, China, and Ecuador. She is particularly interested in how early life nutrition and environmental exposures shape the development of obesity and chronic disease.
A distinguished professorship is one of the most prestigious and visible honors that the University can bestow upon a member of the faculty, and it is a symbol of the value that one’s colleagues have placed on their scholarship and public service.
