CPC Fellow Pamela Jagger discusses findings from the new Poverty and Environment global study in a recent Center for International Forestry Research story. The study may cause existing forest management strategies to be reconsidered. Currently popular strategies encourage strong enforcement of ownership in order to help maintain carbon stocks in the long term. However, the study’s findings show that this may have a detrimental effect on forest dwelling locals by decreasing their ability to access forest products.
