Cash Transfers to Prevent HIV Infection: State of the Evidence and Implications for Programs

Dr. Audrey Pettifor is an Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Faculty Fellow at the Carolina Population Center. She has conducted research on sexual behavior HIV prevention in sub-Saharan Africa for close to twenty years with a particular focus on young women and structural interventions. Dr. Pettifor is PI of a large NIH funded randomized controlled trial in South Africa (HPTN 068) which examines the impact of a cash transfer conditional on school attendance on HIV incidence among young women.
